Heute ist er fast auf jedem Kontinent zu finden. Er hat etwas Ähnlichkeit mit dem Damhirsch. Ältere Damhirsche können anhand ihres Geweihes von männlichen Sikahirschen unterschieden werden.Er trägt dann das Schaufelgeweih. Im Winter ist das Fell des Sikahirsch braun und im Sommer gefleckt.
